Cast-coated Paper

Cast-coated Paper

Cast-coated materials such as paper or boards are stock for printing. They have a super-shiny reflective coating on one side while the other side remains uncoated. The coating is created with a formulation of precipitated calcium carbonate, china clay, calcium sulfate, and alumina and held together with binding agents.

A high gloss is produced when a wet coating is applied with applicator rollers and pressed against a chromium-plated metal cylinder. The cylinder is heated from the inside, and as the coating dries, it takes on a glossy finish. Cast-coated paper provides superior printing both in terms of sharp details and color reproduction.
