How to Create A Personalization Profile for A Print Product in DesignO?

A personalization profile controls everything your users can or cannot do inside the DesignO Studio. From text tools to backgrounds, color controls, artwork, image uploads, margins, and even VDP — every creative capability is enabled (or restricted) through this profile.
Below is a complete step-by-step guide to create, configure, and assign a personalization profile to a product.

Step 1 - Go to the personalization profile section

  1. Log in to your DesignO admin panel
  2. Navigate to web to print  Personalization profile
  3. You will see a list of pre-created profiles for Printing, Packaging, Layered, and Merchandise products.

Step 2 - Create a new personalization profile

  1. Click Add New
  2. Enable the toggle "enable personalization profile"
  3. Choose the Product Type:
    1. Printing
    2. packaging
    3. merchandise
    4. layered
  4. Enter the Profile name (e.g., "Paper Printing Profile")
    1. Choose a name that helps you instantly identify its purpose

Step 3 - Select unit a measurement

Choose how you canvas should be measured:
  1. inches
  2. Millimetres
  3. Feet
  4. Meters
  5. Pixels
  6. Centimetres
This unit will be applied inside the design studio for all sizes and margin inputs.

Step 4 - Enable or disable key creative features

Turn ON or OFF the Studio tools you want your customers to see:
  1. Text
  2. Clipart
  3. QR Code
  4. Image Upload
  5. Editable Artwork
  6. Embellishing (Only appears when enabled for that profile)
Example: If a product requires only “Text + Photos,” simply disable Artwork, Backgrounds, Templates, etc.

Step 5 - Configure image upload rules

  1. Turn ON Image Upload.
  2. A DPI guideline tab will appear.
  3. Enter the minimum acceptable DPI (based on your printer’s recommendation).
    1. If the uploaded image is below the allowed DPI, the system blocks it.

Step 6 - Define margin settings (Important for printing products)

Margins ensure safe print boundaries.
You can enter margins:
  1. Individually in each field, or
  2. Enter once in the quick box and auto-fill the values.
  3. If a margin is not required, set it to 0.

Step 7 - Configure Background Settings

You have two options:

Option A: Use Background Images
  1. First, go to Backgrounds (found above Web-to-Print Setup).
  2. Create background categories (e.g., Gradients, Patterns, Textures).
  3. Upload background images and assign them to categories.
  4. Come back to the profile and assign categories to the product.
Option B: Use Background Colors

Two modes available:
  1. Full Color Picker (unrestricted color choice)
  2. Color Palette (predefined color sets)
Use a palette when you want strict brand or print-safe color limits.

Step 8 - Choose Color Processing Type for Elements

1. Four-Color Process (CMYK/RGB)
  1. Users see full color controls.
  2. Text, clipart, shapes, and artwork elements can be recolored freely.
2. One-Color Process
  1. All design elements follow a single color.
  2. Additional options:
    1. One Color (fixed, no switching)
    2. One Color via Palette (user can switch between defined colors)
This setting controls text colors, clipart colors, artwork colors, and more.

Step 9 - Enable Photo Book–Specific Options (If Applicable)

Turn ON Photo Book Settings only if you're creating a photo book product.
You can configure:
  1. Extra width & height for first/last pages
  2. Gutter space

Step 10 - Configure Extra Settings

Depending on the product type, you can enable:
  1. Corner Radius - Adds rounded corners to shapes.
  2. Border - Adds a border outline around design objects.
  3. VDP (Variable Data Printing) -

    1. Enable this if:
      1. Your product needs data variation (Name cards, ID cards, badges, certificates)
      2. Customers want to upload CSV/Excel for bulk personalization

    2. Choose VDP output type:
      1. Automatic
      2. Manual

  4. Enable Add Page (For Photo Books)
    1. Allows customers to add extra pages during customization.
    2. Set Price Per Extra Page as needed.

  5. Page Display Style -
Choose:
    1. Single page
    2. Two page
    3. Horizontal
    4. Vertical
